So close NOT!!!
I think I was lured into a false sense of security! Having bought “follow your team” tickets for Portugal 2004 at the princely sum of £800 and then seen Scotland not only rally to beat Lithuania and then whip Holland 1-0, I thought we stood a chance of scraping a draw in Amsterdam and going through on away goals!
I was and the rest of the Tartan hopeful were obviously fooling ourselves because low and behold we lost 6-0 tonight! I have never seen any team I support lose in such a dire fashion. All the years of supporting Scotland and Aberdeen I was yet to see such an under performance! 2 shots on target (none of which were any good) and none in the second half.
I’m quite glad I was watching it in a packed pub because for half the game I couldn’t see the screen and could only tell Holland had scored cos of the groans!
Ah well there’s always the 2006 World Cup to look forward to and at least I’ll get all of money back for the tickets (minus the £50 extrotionate booking fee!).

Dancing with Loons has moved! I was sick of all those silly adverts that Lycos kept giving me so I forked out £25 and bought a name and hosting.
Hopefully things should be faster, more reliable and people will remember the name a little bit easier!
No other major changes planned but you never know…

Still haven’t made it to the gym despite of the boredom of this weekend… errr hang on a minute… did we just beat Holland 1-nil???
I think we did!! Hang on let me check….
Nope I did sit in the pub today and watch a Scottish team not only beat one of the best (on paper) sides in the world, but actually deserve to win it. No hang on I really need to go and check it actually happened…. Its one big conspiracy I tell you! I reckon I’ve been smoking some of Holland’s other favourite export.
OK, need to stop looking it up otherwise I’ll jinx us for Wednesday! Portugal here we come!
In other news this is a pretty dull weekend but I’m enjoying the laziness of it all! Lori seems to have found this site and left a nice note in the guestbook, not really sure what to make of it really! Have I done something stupid (daft question – something more stupid than usual)? Has one of my many sordid secrets been leaked to the press? Or was it one of those can’t think what to say so… I’ll try to email him tomorrow to catch up cos I haven’t heard from him in ages!
Also discovered Kerrang digital radio on Freeview (digital terrestrial TV in the UK) which is great rocky background music. Much better than the usual Smash Hits pap!
Early nite for me, gym tomorrow (yeah right!),

Wow I managed to get in for 8 this morning, miracles do happen!
Off to see the Matrix tonight and its Simon “George” Lucas’ birthday, so much for that fabled trip to the gym!

Another trip to the gym foiled again (I’m sensing a pattern). Went for drink with one of my old team and a couple of others. Went to a really swanky pub, which forms a big thin ring around a seasonal ice-rink. It was really nice but too expensive and not that good an atmosphere cos it was full of people who earn far more than me and love to shout about it. Nice to try somewhere else near work for a change. Headed home at closing, have to be in for 8 tomorrow!

Ah peace at last to relax in, tried to get home early today and go the gym, just wasn’t happening! Collapsed on the couch about 9 and watched rubbish TV. Got the flat to myself cos Byrney is away home for the week.

Wow last night was rough…
We arrived in Reading about 2, and went straight to the pub, several Guinness later and I already had too much to drink. Back to flat for a Chinese and to get changed about 7 before heading out to a couple of pubs by 9. Ended up in the infamous Walkabout at about 11, and continued to drink Southern Comfort and After-shocks like there was no tomorrow. Ended up playing Eye-Toy and watching a film back at Nev & Alan’s until sometime after 4.
Comedy/good moments from the night include:
- Me eating a peanut for the first time ever!
- Jim’s first day back in Scotland with Neds story.
- Being the last jacket into the cloakroom (they ran out of space) by stuffing one into the sleeve of another, needless to say the rest of the queue wasn’t happy.
- The upstairs/downstairs group divide.
- Pouring After-shock all over myself because the shot-glass had some strange spiral in the middle (oh and I was very drunk).
- Watching Nev and Grant play Eye-Toy drunk and completely failing to achieve anything.
- Nev and Grant’s Eye-Toy dirty movie “you don’t want to know where that camera’s been!).
- A sheriff, a deputy, a talking guerrilla (the monkey not Sheh Guava) playing cards.
- A nurse, “Sven”, that talking guerrilla again and a hi-tech cage.
- Waking up freezing cold in the hall.
- The best fry up in the world thanks to Byrney and Nev.
- Nev’s “Giggs is rubbish” comments followed moments later by 2 Man U goals scored by… you guessed it… Giggs
- Emil Heskey missing a sitter by falling over the ball.

Got up for the rugby again this week at a much kinder hour but with a far harsher result. Was great at half time but we were let down by some awful refereeing and some costly mistakes and overall Australia deserved to win. I’ll spare you the player by player review this time. Come on Ireland tomorrow!

Out tonight with Mark and his flatmates as it was Brian’s Birthday. I was completely surrounded by the Irish again apart from a token Englander and a Spanish girl who had an Irish accent. Went to the Lime bar near work which was nice but surprisingly quiet for a Friday night.
Scariest thing of the night was the freaky tequila girl who was far too scantily dress (yes even for me!) and was just off-putting. Headed home early to pack, Mark and the rest of them ended up back in Greenwich with a huge carry-out by all accounts. I’m sure Brian had fun.
Byrney and I are off to Reading tomorrow to see Nev, Grant, Jim, Dan, Alan and Vicki. Should be a good laugh and lots of alcohol to be consumed.
