Anyone else dying with hayfever? Anyone had the hayfever injection? If so please let me know how it went: james_at_dancingwithloons.com.

Took Sian to see Damien Rice in a charity concert for Action Burma (Free Aung San Suu Kyi) last night. he played for over 2 hours without a set list largely to the requests of the audience which was pretty cool. Was wasn’t good was his “Marty McFly/Back To The Future/Johnny Be Good”™ moments – during his best songs when he decided to turn his brilliant accountic guitar melodies into a thrash metal painful high-pitched feedback scream. Some of his effects were genius, using a combination of guitar pedals and effect loops to record, loop and combine his own live tracks effectively creating a big-band sound from one man and his guitar but on nearly every occassion he took it 10 or 12 steps too far.

He’s improved a lot since I last saw him a year ago, his confidence and banter are great, his voice can fill the whole theatre even when not on the mic but spoiled it last night by trying to be something he’s not.

Had to transfer my life saving away today – very poor – all in the persuit of buying a house! Just as well I have an inflatable bed cos there ain’t no money left for a cardboard box to sleep in let alone a bed.

Met Rory for lunch – he’s down in London for a couple of days for a course. Heard that everyone had a good old drunken night last Saturday after Sian and I headed back to Largs, have to stick around for that next time.

Just had my 6 month review, great improvement but still a bit of that school report card syndrome – “must try harder”. Yawn.

Gyming it up tonight for the first time in a couple of weeks – gonna be feeling the pain later.

What a warm weekend – far too hot for me. Somehow it’s nice to go away for a couple of weeks in the Caribbean and enjoy 30+ degree heats but as soon as it gets about 25 in the UK I start to moan. Why is that? I spend 2 weeks in the Dominican Republic on a sun lounger trying to soak as much warmth into my Scottish blue skin but when it gets nice and warm and sunny in the UK I hide inside next to a fan! Dread to think what would have happened if I’d gone with my parents and sister to the Maldives.

Speaking of which, it would appear my dad is rock, not just your ordinary hard-man, but Rocky scale of super-hardness. He falls over and hears a snap, realises that his finger is hanging off at an odd angle… So decides just to lie on the ground and fiddle with his dislocated digit until it pops back into place with a satisfying snap. “I’ve heard that rugby players do it, so figured it would be OK”. Yes… fortunately he seems to have all the possible side-effects except for extreme bruising and some pain. Just in case it happens to you, here’s how you should do it.

Went up to Reading to help celebrate Vik’s birthday, went out for a great dinner in MA Potters – where I proceeded to spoil the whole thing by making vastly inappropriate comments all evening – I do humbly apologise and blame the heat for my indiscretion!

Also went to see Mr & Mrs Smith. Which isn’t fantastic but pretty good – worth seeing but not a patch on Sin City.

Failed to exchange on our flat on Friday thanks to a complete ar$e of vendor who just keeps bullying us around. Have half a mind just to pull out of the whole thing just to wind him up. Problem is we quite like the place and still want it.

Just exchanged on the new house. Really happy but now have to get all the other cash together by Friday (deposit, mortgage, stamp-tax, fees, legal costs).

Don’t think I can afford food for the rest of the week.

Get the keys for the new place on the 28th (yes in just 8 days time!) – provided all goes well.

WOW!

Oh left a few bits out of the last update.

We also had Sigrid, her brother and her brother’s trapeze artist partner to stay this week – yes the circus really did come to town.

Matt and I are getting ever closer to buying that house, we’re due to complete today but due to a complete c*ck up by the Bank of Scotland and the ability of lawyers to be completely useless ( not you Mum) we might not get it done until Monday. Hope to complete on the 1st of July!

My Mum, Dad and sister are sunning it up in the Maldives for a week (a short hop from Sri Lanka) but Dad seems to have dislocated his finger on arrival – probably lugging Ellen’s luggage!

Didn’t get Live8 Tickets but it would seem that nearly everyone in Scotland got them for the London gig, good work Lori and Ian.

Just because I’m sure you want to know – Chocolate Peppermint Creams from the sweet shop in Largs are great, well their better than great – they’re the best thing on the planet ever. Glad I cleared that up.

Been an interesting week and weekend, but feeling way too lazy tonight to write it all down so thought I’d try updating in pictures:

Yes, despite Kev from the flat in Glasgow telling me for years while at uni, I’ve finally admitted to myself that I’m going bald – this photo was proof:

We have a small beach near the flat, well I say a beach but its really a mud strip, imagine our surprise to find a boat washed ashore one morning. Not quite the packing space I’d have chosen on the Thames.

Just in case you didn’t know, Stu has rounded up the cattle and is heading off to Tokyo with his work for a minimum of 2 years, leaving in July. Make the most of him while he’s still here!

Err think I might have been drinking too much wine, but at least my gargoyle impression is improving:

I can think of nothing better than getting up at the crack of dawn on a Bank Holiday Sunday to go to a club – yes a club during the day – only to queue for 2 hours and not get in – still we washed away our sorrows for the next 12 hours with snakebite.

And finally tonight, the tube trains seem to be escaping from the tracks and appearing on the back of lorries near Canary Wharf:

Hmm anything, well nothing with photos anyway. Glasgow trip is still on for this weekend, hope everyone will be around!

Bah humbug! The guestbook keeps on getting spammed. First of all it was strange comments in Japanese, now I’m getting adverts for non-perscription drugs. Gonna have to work out a way of getting rid of them – please bear with me in the meantime.

Hope to do a proper update with news from the weekend later tonight, that’s if I can remember what happened thanks to the beatings I took from the drunken monkey.

Yes, Liverpool won the Champions league in one of the best games I have ever seen but, sometimes you have to wonder about the journalistic quality of the BBC’s reporting: ‘Du the Dudek’, if you really want your own Dudek mask (and remember that he really is useless) then here’s what you need to be Jerzy Dudek for the day.

Went to the gym last night, just in time to watch the second half of Scotland taking on the Barbarians, imagine my surprise to watch a dominant team control a game, play a full 80mins, capitalise on opposition mistakes, string passes together and make hard contact tackles – and they were wearing blue! Would be stupid to claim we’re back to the glory days of Hastings and Sole but great to see them play with a little confidence in front of a packed and loud stadium. Scotland 38-7 Barbarians – I think I’m dreaming!

Just in case you haven’t heard…

Sian and I have booked flights and car hire for a Glasgow/Largs visit from the Friday the 10th of June (AM) to the Monday the 13th (PM).

Would be really good to see everyone to catch up. Looks like Friday afternoon/night and Saturday morning/afternoon/night are the best times for us to arrange something. So are you around in Glasgow that weekend? When are you free? Do you fancy meeting up to reminice?

Drop me an email (james_at_dancingwithloons.com) or leave a note in the guestbook and let me know.
